Amaltas College of Education (ACE) aims to empower the next generation of teachers and education entrepreneurs to transform the economic, social & cultural fabric of India. ACE aspires to build exemplary leaders in education who will succeed in today and tomorrow’s complex global society.
To prepare students to take up teaching and education as a profession of choice through high-quality, all-round education; cutting-edge research; a culture that reinforces gender sensitivity, mutual respect and nationalism; and a strong network of partner institutions.
India faces a severe shortage of trained teachers in its schools. We need 5 lakh new teachers and an additional 6.6 lakh teachers need upskilling, according to RTE Forum, a network of 10,000 grassroot organisations working in 18 states of India. Not surprisingly, the eastern belt of India contributes the most to this deficit: Uttar Pradesh needs 3 lakh trained school teachers; Bihar needs 2.60 lakh; and West Bengal needs another 1 lakh, as of today.
The idea of Amaltas emerged keeping this demand – supply gap in mind: the demand for trained educators who can make a difference, and the inadequate supply of such teachers.
Located in Indrapuri (Bihar), 150 km from Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Patna (Bihar), ACE will not only cater to students and schools from these two important cities, but also to the 150 km radius in between. In fact, even in a short radius of 10 km, there are over 20 government schools and at least 6 CBSE/ICSE schools. These schools offer employment opportunities to teachers with a B.Ed or D.El.Ed. At the same time, ACE also offers an opportunity to teachers with work experience to do a full-time B.Ed or D.El.Ed. course.
In addition to quality education and research, emphasis on all-round development is another important tenet for ACE. With supplementary courses in communication skills, personality development and logical reasoning as well as on-campus seminars conducted by experts from various fields, ACE will ensure that every student graduates as a leader who has the potential to change the world.
